Wisconsin authorities claim woman was driving drunk with children in her car

Troopers with the Wisconsin State Patrol recently arrested a woman from Greendale for alleged drunk driving. Authorities claim she was speeding along Interstate 94 around 1 a.m. in Waukesha County. They further claim that she almost hit another vehicle before she was pulled over.

During the traffic stop, authorities found that the woman was driving with six children in her car. They ranged in age from 7 to 15. Two of the children were allegedly not wearing seatbelts.

Troopers say the woman was stumbling and could not stand on one foot when field sobriety tests were administered. Authorities may see that as a clear indication of the woman’s impairment. However, because the traffic stop occurred during the early morning hours, fatigue may have played a part.

According to one report, the woman told troopers that she had been drinking wine coolers. Her blood alcohol level reportedly registered at 0.11 when troopers administered a breath test during the traffic stop.

The woman’s blood alcohol level was allegedly above the legal limit. However, how the authorities administered the breath test may be called into question. Certain procedures must be followed. If those procedures are not followed, the evidence may not be allowed in court.

It is not clear what additional charges the woman may face. However, because of the children that were in her vehicle, the woman could face more than just drunk driving charges. People who find themselves in a similar situation would be wise to begin planning a strong legal defense.
