A Waukesha man has been charged with two counts of murder after he supplied heroin to a man and woman who later died after overdosing on the drug.
The 27-year-old man has already admitted to police that he supplied the 24-year-old Muskego woman and the 26-year-old Delafield man who died with heroin and the devices to use it in the past, but he has claimed the drugs they used when they overdosed on or just before July 12 came from somewhere else.
Now, he has been charged with two counts of first-degree reckless homicide in connection with their deaths and is in jail on $100,000 bond. If he is convicted, the man is looking at 25 years in prison plus 15 years of extended supervision upon release for each count.
While we do not condone that this man was distributing a very dangerous drug, he could make the argument that things got out of hand. We all know that drugs are terribly addictive and that a chemical dependency can corrupt your life and lead you to do things you’d ordinarily never even consider. It seems that this sad situation is an example of a scenario that went terribly wrong. It is absolutely a tragedy that two young people are dead, but it is also sad that the man who has been accused in connection with their deaths has not gotten the help he needs to rise up out of a life that is tangled up with drugs.
