A Milwaukee man faces serious drug charges after police say he was found selling heroin out of a motel room. The man was charged after an incident late last month. He could potentially face more than seven years behind bars and be forced to pay $25,000 in fines.
A Greenfield police officer claims he heard that a man was selling heroin out of a local Roadway Inn motel room. The police officer allegedly watched a woman go into the motel room. He pulled her over after she left. The woman allegedly had heroin in her possession. She reportedly told the officer that she had bought the heroin from a man in the motel room.
Fearful that the alleged dealer had fled from the motel, the police officer obtained a key and entered the motel room. The man was found inside the room allegedly in possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia. He has been charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.
As evidenced by the potentially harsh penalties this man could face if convicted, drug charges are very serious whether you live in Wisconsin or elsewhere. However, criminal charges and a conviction are two very different things. A person can only be convicted of a crime if they are proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
In some instances, negotiating a plea agreement with prosecutors is best. Those accused of serious crimes could end up facing less severe penalties by pleading guilty to reduced charges. To determine if that is the best defense strategy, people would be best served working with an experienced criminal defense attorney.
