Child pornography is something that both state and federal law enforcement agencies take extremely seriously, and they often work together to investigate and take down people they think could be involved with the capturing or sharing of “sexually explicit” images involving minors.
Last month, federal agents arrested a Janesville, Wisconsin, man who was eventually indicted on federal child pornography charges after an investigation by the FBI, an Illinois police department and the Janesville Police Department.
Neighbors say that federal agents stormed a duplex on the far north end of Janesville one morning late last month with guns drawn. Agents were seen going back and forth between the duplex and a truck-mounted office.
Later, a U.S. attorney said that the search was related to the arrest and indictment of 36-year-old Janesville man on federal child pornography charges. The man is accused of using a cellphone to take “sexually explicit” images of a child in October and sending the images in text messages.
He is also accused of “persuading” a minor to engage in explicit acts in the images, a Wisconsin newspaper reported.
With just this limited information, the situation makes it sound that the person arrested has done something horrible, but it is important to remember that a full investigation is needed before any conclusions can be made.
Undoubtedly, the Wisconsin man will need an experienced criminal defense lawyer to protect his rights so that he can receive a fair trial.
With numerous law enforcement offices working together to take down suspected child pornography offenders, the accused must also have someone representing their side of the story.
