Some people tend to fall into a drug habit. It may start out as a recreational activity, but soon many become addicted and to support their habit may get into drug trafficking. This may have been the case of eight Wisconsin people who have been arrested for trafficking heroin, which led to a woman’s death this past spring.
The death of the woman-led investigators to those that may have sold the heroin to her. The eight individuals are now facing federal drug charges as well as homicide charges for supplying the drug to the woman before she died.
The Waushara County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation along with the Central Wisconsin Drug Task Force investigated the case. Investigators stated that several trips were made to Milwaukee each week to pick up the drug, which was sold to approximately 30 people in the area on a regular basis.
While we don’t know all of the details in this case, if you find yourself in a situation where you have been arrested for drug possession or trafficking, you should seek the advice of a criminal defense attorney. And while taking illegal drugs is a personal choice, Wisconsin authorities are imposing increasingly tougher sentences on those responsible for providing the fatal supply. The repercussions from any drug crime conviction are serious. You could lose your house or car to forfeiture if the case is made that you obtained these items by manufacturing or delivering drugs.
In this case, the defendants could be facing 40 years in prison and approximately $100,000 in fines.
